Why you Should Invest in Biotech Stocks Instead of Bitcoin

Uncertainty is never a good thing when it comes to making investments. Bitcoin experienced unprecedented growth in the year 2017 but there is an air of uncertainty around the future of the crypto currency. A New York Times article titled “Everyone is Getting Hilariously Rich and You’re Not” reports a conversation with one of the core developers of Bitcoin, Pieter Wuille, where he says that people keep asking him if they should invest in Bitcoin, but he has no idea if they should do that since the technology is still evolving.

In comparison, biotech stocks are expected to grow this year and many financial advisors are betting on smaller biotech companies that have recently started trading publicly. Although the growth wasn’t as explosive as it was for Bitcoin in 2017, biotech stocks saw solid growth too. The Nasdaq Biotechnology Index that tracks the performance of stocks for companies classified as biotechnology or pharmaceutical was up 21.63% percent in 2017. This growth is expected to continue in 2018 because of the advances that biotech companies are making.

natural medications replacing synthetic medicine
Many biotech firms have launched innovative products that are expected to make waves in the market for natural medicinal products. Consumers and practitioners are now wary of traditional medicine due to their side effects and are leaning toward natural and organic products. These products are just as effective as traditional medicines and have minimal side effects. As consumer awareness about the ill effects of synthetic products increases, the demand for effective natural products created by biotech firms is only expected to rise.

In addition, Google has recently banned ads related to crypto currencies on its platforms, which led to a downward slide in the price of crypto currencies. On the other hand, biotech stocks are building a strong case, as they are not only working on novel products that have tremendous potential to disrupt the market but are also well on the way to partner with pharmaceutical giants to make better medicines and products that are natural, effective and side-effect free.
